Hot Shots - Cabo San Lucas Country Club

Cabo San Lucas, Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Mexico

Visually stunning and relaxing as the Dye designed golf course at Cabo San Lucas is, it is as equally challenging. Aces here are few and far between. There is however a small group of talented and perhaps slightly lucky players who have made that illustrious hole-in-one we all chase after. From the statistics over the years if you want to join this elite group it's pretty clear your greatest chance is to play your best game at the 3rd and/or 17th Holes. Looks like being a resident of Cabo San Lucas doesn't hurt the mix either.

  • On December 23rd of 1994, Phil Sereda's game was sharp. He found the mark and made the very first ace at the Dye designed golf course at Cabo San Lucas from 197 yards on third hole. Not to take away from his talent but as a Cabo resident Phil may have had a slight advantage.

  • It took a year and a half before another Baja resident knocked in a hole-in-one. This time it was on May 8th, 1996, also on the third hole when Marcos Vazquez showed off his swing and aced it from 190 yards.

  • Not until January 18th, 1997 did the course give up another opportunity to make a name for yourself, and it was at the seventeenth hole. Pepe Metaca, a visitor from Mexico City, rose to the challenge, and holed his tee shot from 154 yards.

  • A little over a month later on February 25th, 1997 Cabo's own Steve Wolf aced the 197-yard third hole. He returned less than five months later on July 5th to prove his excellence and beat the seventeenth hole with another ace from 168 yards.

  • On March 10th, 1997 yet another Cabo resident, Denny Linderman, proved his mastery over hole three and hit his tee shot into the cup from 190 yards. Must be something in the tequila here that makes the residents such great golfers.

  • Chalk one more up for the people of The Baja. On March 25th, 1997 Mike Monaghan, also from Cabo, joined the ranks and nailed a smooth hole-in-one at the third hole from 180 yards.

  • From then on it was the woman's turn for awhile. Tina Fraser from the Cabo area was the first woman to ace a hole on the course. Her talent shone bright on January 11th, 1998 when she dropped in her ace on the seventeenth hole from 87 yards.

  • To close out the 19'98 golfing season, Phillip McGaughey from Bremerton Washington taught hole 17 a lesson on December 15th when he put one directly in the hole with his 6 iron. Only 1 of 2 people to ace that year, Phillip definitely owned that hole!

  • It was April 13th, 1999 when Phyllis Pierce, also a Cabo resident, took a sweet shot and wrote a one on her score card after knocking it in on the seventeenth hole from 87 yards.

  • Vacationing from Brewster, NY, USA Diane Sisca was playing hard and shooting well. On February 21st she made the first ace of the Millennium from 122 yards on the eighth hole.

  • Six months into the Millennium, on June 17th, Dick Callahan was visiting from Sacramento, CA. He stood at the blue tee on the seventeenth hole, picked up his pitching wedge, and shot a hole in one from 130 yards. In his own words, " It was an awesome experience!"

  • Not another hole in one was made until nearly the end of the next year. It was November 1, 2001 when Matt Nielsen from Meadow Vista, CA stepped up to hole seventeen. He aced it from 168 yards making a most memorable vacation moment.

  • On February 15th, 2002, Bud Curson, a long time fan of the course, pulled out his club and guided his shot right into the eighth hole for an ace. He celebrated his feat while vacation from Nevada, by sitting down with the owners and enjoying a complimentary bottle of wine.
